Edith Berniece Shrimplin, 84, Valley Falls, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
She was born Jan. 22, 1930, at Stull, KS, the daughter of John Thomas and Emma Katherine Olson Ice. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School at Lawrence in 1947. She attended Washburn University for two years and later graduated from Clark’s School of Business in Topeka.
Edie worked with her husband, Frank, from 1963-2002, at their business in Valley Falls, Frank’s Pharmacy. She had worked as executive secretary at Shawnee Federal Savings and later as a secretary at Community Mental Health Center, both in Topeka. She was a faithful member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Edie served on numerous committees and worked at the church’s Clothes Closet Ministry. She was a member of Chapter DK P.E.O. Sisterhood at Valley Falls.
She married Frank Shrimplin July 8, 1950, at Lawrence.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, of the home; a son, Tom (Becky) Shrimplin, Ottawa; two daughters, Tina (Corey) Brubaker, Lincoln, NE, and Tamie (Rick) Ferrell, Valley Falls; two sisters, Mildred Linn, Wichita, and Virginia Short, Lawrence; a special niece, Dawn (Curt) Elmore, Platteville, CO; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be at a later date at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
