Henry Donaldson, 92, Atchison, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Maple Heights Nursing & Rehab in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the funeral home. Henry was born June 9, 1922, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Julia Tolbert Donaldson. He attended Atchison Public Schools graduating from Atchison High School in 1940.

He and the former Corrine Sanders were united in marriage on July 12, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kansas. Mrs. Donaldson preceded him in death on September 23, 2013.

Henry was a Buffalo Soldier serving in the United States Army from July 22, 1940 until his Honorable Discharge on August 24, 1945.

Henry was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad.

He was a longtime member of St. Benedict’s Parish, the Riccordi club, the NAACP, and the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion.  He and his wife were also members of the Good Sam Camping Club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling both in the United States and Europe. For several years they would spend winters at their home in Brownsville, Texas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He also enjoyed listening to jazz and blues music.

Survivors include a sister-in-law Louanna Grier, Hiawatha, KS.
