HAROLD L. MCGRANAHAN

 

HOLTON- Harold Lloyd McGranahan, 87, of Holton, KS passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at his home. He was born October 24, 1927 in Emmett, KS the son of Theodore Lee and Loretta Elizabeth (Aubert) McGranahan.

          Harold left home at age 15 and worked for a Nebraska farmer. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Shenandoah. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #101 for over 55 years.

          Harold received his pilot’s license in 1964. He proudly received his GED in 1987. His passion was flying and he enjoyed fishing and telling stories of his life. Harold loved spending time with his grandsons, C.J. and Brandon Lehnherr, attending sporting events, plays, music programs and playing cards.

          He served in the Red Cross disaster programs and traveled with Jackson Heights Honor Flight in 2007.

          Harold married Margaret Redmon in 1947, they later divorced. He married A. Elizabeth Mullinix Lehnherr in 1976, she survives of the home. Other survivors include twin sons, Richard McGranahan (Rita) of Escondido, CA and Robert McGranahan (Peggy) of Harveyville, KS; a daughter, Waunita McGranahan- Stephenson (Geoffrey) of Morrison, CO; a step-son, Christian Lehnherr (Rhonda) of Holton, KS; a sister, Nellie McNeer of St. Mary’s, KS; a brother, Raymond Wilson (Donna) of Milford, NE and 7 grandchildren, including C.J. and Brandon Lehnherr.

          He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth McGranahan; 2 sisters, Margaret Lawson and Joan Thomason and a step-son, Virgil Dennis Lehnherr III.

          Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will be in the Delia Cemetery.
