Phyllis A. Bomberger, 69, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Lucas officiating.  Interment will follow in Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, Kansas.  Visitation with the family will be Monday, February 9th from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to The Atchison Humane Society or Northeast Kansas Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Phyllis was born July 16, 1945 in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Mabel Clough Candreia.  She attended rural elementary school in one room schoolhouses, then attended and graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, Kansas.

She and Larry Bomberger were united in marriage on February 8, 1964 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Effingham, Kansas.

Phyllis was formerly employed as a secretary for Exchange National Bank, St. Benedict’s College under then president Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB, Atchison Hospital and Blue-Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company of Topeka, Kansas.  She then became employed as a writer for the Atchison Daily Globe where she served for over twenty years in numerous departments.

She enjoyed gardening and camping in her spare time.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and caring for her dogs, Bert and Ernie.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Bomberger of the couple’s home, four daughters, Annette (Randy) Heineken, Effingham, KS, Jacque (Todd) Rhyne, Valley Falls, KS, Trisha (Chris) Gibson, Highland, KS, Lisa (Pat) Boyle, Atchison, KS, Dorothy Chandler, Colorado Springs, CO. who was raised in her family’s home since childhood and was like a sister, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ellen Hollenbeck.
