Frank E. Goodwin, Jr., 67, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 8, 2015, at his home.

Frank was born at Oakland, California, January 3, 1948, one of two children of the late Frank and Sarah Childress Goodwin. He was raised in Hiawatha where he attended schools, graduating high school with the class of 1966.  Frank attended Kansas University at Lawrence a few years before joining the U.S. Navy where he served on a carrier during the Vietnam Conflict.  He returned to the Hiawatha area where he raised his family and was employed for approximately 30 years at the Hiawatha Community Hospital before retiring in 2010.  He was a skilled carpenter, avid golfer, and loved to fish.  Frank spent many hours constructing a model railroad in his basement.

Survivors include three children:  Dylan (Susan) Goodwin of Leawood, KS, their children Elizabeth, Katherine and Eric; daughter Laura Goodwin, and her children:  Dominic, Alliyah and Anika; and a son David Goodwin of San Diego, CA.  Also surviving is a sister Pat Miller of Lawrence, KS.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, February 13, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.  Reverend Randy Quinn, of First United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Thursday. The family will meet with friends Thursday evening from 6 until 7.
