Phyllis L. Shaw, 77, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly at her home, Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
Phyllis was born at Bern, Kansas, June 4, 1937, one of four children born to the late John and Doris Trant Rowan.  The family moved when she was at a young age from Bern, to Sabetha, and later Robinson where she grew up, attended school, later graduating from Robinson High School.  Phyllis worked at Fair Fold Shutter Plant until it closed.  In recent years, she was working at McDonald’s in Hiawatha part-time up until her death.
She married Lester D. Shaw, September 9, 1956, at the First Christian Church parsonage.  Lester was in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Bermuda and Idaho and she was able to be stationed with him.  After the military, they returned to Hiawatha where they raised their family and spent their working life here.  He died January 23, 2012.  She was also preceded in death by a son Russell, August 1, 2012.
Mrs. Shaw was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Hiawatha.  She always had a smile, never knew a stranger, and would do without so others wouldn’t have too.
Survivors include a daughter Diane (Sam) Jenkins of Topeka; a son Travis (Debbie) Shaw of Horton; a sister Twila Blanton of Hiawatha; two brothers:  Don Rowan of Hiawatha, Allen Rowan of Topeka; three grandchildren:  Weston (Fiancé Charli) Shaw,  Kraig (Amanda)Shaw, Shawn (Becca) Beecham; a four great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned.  Family visitation is planned for 5:30 until 7:30 Monday evening, February 16, at the First Christian Church in Hiawatha.  Memorial services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, also at the First Christian Church, Hiawatha.
Donations may be left in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home to help with expenses.
