Evelyn “Darlene” Maier
Mercer Funeral Home in Holton

Evelyn “Darlene” Maier went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2015. Her husband, Warren D. Maier was at her side when she was called home. Darlene was born to Florence and Harvey Plankinton on October 18, 1937 near Netawaka, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers LaMoine and Wayne Plankinton, a younger sister, Lois Ilene Land, and a son, Douglas Dean Maier.

She is survived by her husband, Warren Maier, of Hillsboro, Ohio; a son, Richard Maier (Dorinda), of McKinney, Texas; and a daughter, Deanna Robinson (Brian), of Hillsboro, OH. Darlene also leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Joshua Maier, Heather Curtis (Jason), Alora Robinson, Lindsey Gonzalez (Justin), Jordyn Robinson and 6 great-grandchildren.

Darlene grew up in the Wetmore, Kansas area, and graduated from Wetmore High School. On April 25, 1955, she married Warren D. Maier in Grenada, Kansas. Darlene was active in the First Baptist Church of Holton for many years, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Adult Choir, and participated on numerous church committees. Darlene worked for several years at Hallmark Card Company, in Topeka, and was later employed by, and became the manager of the Holton Farm and Home store while living in the Holton area. Darlene later became a licensed cosmetologist and provided mobile service to home-bound, and to local nursing home patients in the Holton and Topeka areas.

In 1997, she and Warren left the family farm, near Birmingham, Kansas, and relocated to Hillsboro, Ohio, where she was active in the Hillsboro First Baptist Church, and continued to serve the community as a cosmetologist. Darlene was a dedicated wife and Mother who never failed to put the needs of her family ahead of her own.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. In lieu of flowers, Darlene requested that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 404 Juniper Drive, Holton, Kansas 66436.
