 Mary Carol McRae, 77, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday March 18, 2015 at Mosiac Life Care in St. 


Joseph, Missouri.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with 

Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish and 

Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited on Friday, March 20th at 6:30 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with 

visitation with the family to follow until 8:00 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Atchison 

Project Concern and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final

Carol was born August 18, 1937 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Jacob and Rosella Deviney Seeger.  

She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School graduating from Mount Saint Scholastica Academy.

She and Donald C. “Don” McRae were united in marriage on May 12, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Church by Fr. 

Matthew Hall, OSB.

Carol was employed with Blish-Mize Company as a billing clerk for over ten years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish, attending St. Joseph’s Church, the Altar Society of the church, 

Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Auxiliary and a longtime volunteer for Atchison Project Concern 

as a meal delivery person for Meals on Wheels and provided homemade pies for Project Concern on a 

regular basis.

She enjoyed playing golf in the A flight with Pineview Country Club, playing bingo, attending the casino, 

ceramics and knitting, she knitted afghans for all of her grandchildren at their birth.  Carol was known 

affectionately in the Atchison community as the “Pie Lady”.  She baked and provided pies for funeral 

lunches at St. Joseph’s Church, Project Concern, Atchison Farmers Market and Paolucci’s Restaurant for 

numerous years, using the same rolling pin even after she wore the handles off.

Survivors include her husband, Don McRae, of the couple’s home in Atchison, a son Steve (Sandy) 

McRae, Rose Hill, KS, a daughter, Kim (Tom) Bartlett, Atchison, KS, a brother, Jerry Seeger, Tucson, AZ, 

three sisters, Helen (Lee) Schroeder, Tucson, AZ, Celine Cole, Mesa, AZ, Jeanne (Francis) Heit, Topeka, 

KS, five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, eight great grandchildren and three step great 

grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Johnson, a brother, Clifford Seeger, and three sisters, 

Rosalee, Fran and Agnes.
