Leona Faye Fleagle, 93, of Hiawatha, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at her home.

She was born October 28, 1921, in Chapman, Kansas, one of four children born to Clarence and Daisy Hunsinger DeWitt. Leona grew up in Chapman where she attended school, later graduating from Dickinson County Community High School.

Leona taught Sunday School in her early years, and worked in the restaurant business. At one time, she owned her own restaurant in Lewiston, Nebraska. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to auctions, and collecting elephants. Leona enjoyed country music and was proud to announce she sang with Lawrence Welk and Little Jimmy Dickens.

She married Charles Alfred Fleagle, January 18, 1941and were blessed with seven children. He died in 1980.

Survivors include her six children: Julia Swain of Elizabeth City, NC, Donald (Margaret) of Reserve, Sandra Jean (Ray) Shafer, Betty Jo Berry, Robert (Tina), Charles (Yunnie), all of Hiawatha; a brother Elmer (Lois) DeWitt of Chapman; 29 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Leona was also preceded in death by her parents; two brother: Albert and Eldon DeWitt; a daughter Peggy Schoenfelder; two grandchildren: Randy Berry and Doris Berry Pierce; and two great-grandchildren: Justin Berry and Kyler Jones.

Funeral services are planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Victor Haworth of Falls City, will officiate. Cremation will follow service with inurnment to be held at Buckeye Church of the Brethren Cemetery, near Chapman.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 Wednesday where the family will meet that evening from 7 until 8:30 that evening.
