Earl L. Irwin, 96, Valley Falls, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Plaza West care facility in Topeka.
He was born Nov. 25, 1918, at Valley Falls, the son of Melvin and Ida Mae Summerfelt Irwin.
Earl raised cattle on his farm south of Valley Falls. He had retired in 1981 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka, where his co-workers knew him as “Cutter”. He was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and United Steel Workers Local 307.
He married Mary A. Mawdsley, August 31, 1941, at Everest. They enjoyed 73 years of marriage together until she died March 13, 2015. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Dale and Kenneth Irwin; and four step-sisters, Lora Dixon, Eula Colle, Marjorie Goldsberry and Wanda Bartsch.   
Earl is survived by his daughter, JoAnn (Ray Jr.) Remp, Topeka; two granddaughters, Kimberly Remp, Fayetteville, Ark., and Melanie Remp, Overland Park; a brother, Clarence Irwin, Topeka; and a sister, Lucile Shaw, Holton.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, until service time.
