Iva Couch

Iva (Peggy) Couch, 96, formerly of Holton, went to meet our Lord March 30, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.

She had suffered from increasing dementia since 2008. Iva was born on March 17, 1919, in Limerick, PA, the daughter of William Borneman and Sarietta (Wales) Borneman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny; her two brothers and their wives: Raymond (Edith) and Maurice (Jean) Borneman and her son-in-law, Michael G Dann.

Iva is survived by two daughters, Karen Ann Stous (Dean) of Holton, KS., Doreen L Dann, Brea, CA; her son, Jack Couch (Alice) of Brooklyn, NY; 7 grandchildren: John and Darin Stous, Holton; Kristen Trudell, Placentia, CA; Robert Dann, Brea; and Ryan Dann, Los Angeles: Benjamin Couch and Evan Couch, Brooklyn; a step-grandson: Darrell Dean Stous; and 9 great-grandchildren: Reagan, Lilly, Leighton, Lucy, and Kinsi Stous; Everett and Emma Trudell; Walter and Esmeralda Couch; 2 step-great-grandchildren: Garrett and Kirsten  Stous; and nieces and nephews she dearly loved.

After graduation in 1937, from Pottstown (PA) HS, Iva attended business school and worked as a secretary for a defense plant. She enlisted in the USMC in July 1943 and served in the Motor Pool, at Camp LeJeune, New River, N.C., at North Island and El Toro, CA, until December 1945.

Iva married a fellow Marine, John H Couch (Johnny), on September 14, 1946, in Pottstown, PA. He died in 1972. She was a secretary in Bellwood, IL; Secretary at Eldridge School in Elmhurst, IL and then Corporate Secretary for Nalco Chemical Company, in Oakbrook, IL, until her retirement in 1981. 

She married Art Techenbrock ; they later divorced. Iva married John k Brannon, who died in 1997.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton; a life-veteran of Holton VFW # 1367 Auxiliary; and a life-member of the Women Marines Association.  Until recently she was a 60+-year- member of the American Legion in Elmhurst, IL, and in Oceanside, CA. She was an avid bowler and a member of WBA and greatly enjoyed bingo and playing cards. She loved to travel and visit friends, went to Germany twice to see the Passion Play and in 2009 took an Honor Flight to see the WWII monument and others.


Visitation with family will begin Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. at 1st United Methodist Church, Holton, KS. A Celebration of Life for Iva will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in Chicago, IL.
