RUSSELL (RJ) ELVEN DORRELL JR, 80 went to be with the Lord on May 21st, 2015, after a long and wonderful life.

He was born Highland, KS on 2 January 1935.  The family lived in town and he graduated from Highland High School in 1952.  He attended Highland Community College for a year.  He joined the Navy, and was hand selected to attend the US Naval Academy in 1956.  He completed his military service and went to the University of Kansas, where he received his Electrical Engineering Degree.  He was the older of two boys.

In Cheyenne, WY he met and married Glenda May Magill from Hendrickson, MO in 1962.  They had one child.  Glenda had four children from a previous marriage, and they instantly created a large loving family.

They lived all over the United States, settling in Pennsylvania for 16 years, prior to moving to High Point/Greensboro five years ago, to be near their youngest son, due to health reasons.  He loved traveling, cruising and could be found with his wife at the bingo hall on regular occasions.  He loved to sing, always participating in church and recreational choirs.  He worked as a project engineer most of his working life, but also worked for NASA on the Apollo program.  He was an active member of the Hereford Mennonite Church in Bally, PA, and transferred his membership to Cornerstone Baptist Church here in Greensboro.  He was also a Shriner and Scottish Rites Mason as a member of Smithton Masonic Lodge #1.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents Hazel and Russell Dorrell of Highland, KS; his son Scott Haggberg of Cheyenne, WY; and a grandson Kyle Michael Haggberg, of San Jose, CA.

He is survived by her son Michael Haggberg and wife Dawn, of San Jose, CA; son Barney Haggberg of Front Royal, VA; daughter Susan Haggberg Russo and husband Michael, of Front Royal, VA; and son Russell Dorrell III and wife Theresa, of Greensboro, NC; brother Jack Dorrell and wife Rosalie, of Bendena, KS; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, KS, with Pastor Jerry Petering officiating, on Saturday, 30 May 2015, at 2 pm, followed by a burial at the family plot at Highland Cemetery with military honors.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC on Tuesday, 02 June 2015, at 7 pm, followed by a reception with the family.
