Chalen Elizabeth Asher Reed

Chalen Elizabeth Asher Reed, 50, of Horton Kansas passed away on December 17th, 2019 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

Chalen was born in Fort Scott Kansas on August 16, 1969 to Kenneth and Mary Chester Asher.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Reed on July 24, 2019.

Chalen is survived by her parents Kenneth and Mary Asher of Louisburg KS and her sisters Kenna Valentine (husband Gary) of Lenexa KS, Danielle Iacovetto (husband Alex) of Eagle CO and Farrah Burg (husband Andrew) of Olathe KS and brother Jarratt Asher (wife Tara) of Louisburg KS.  Also, she is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Chalen was an active member of the First Christian Church of Horton Kansas including being an Elder and member of Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF). Chalen loved to play hand bells and played for many years and was most recently a member of Community Bell Choir.

Chalen graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1987.  She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Science from Pittsburg State University in 1991 and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1994. Chalen practiced pharmacy with her dad and brother in Paola, Kansas at Auburn Pharmacy (formerly Asher Pharmacy) before moving to Horton where she was a pharmacist at the Horton Hospital. Chalen then worked at KS Medicaid in Topeka KS for many years and finished her career at White Cloud Indian Health Center Pharmacy in White Cloud Kansas. Chalen was a member of the Kansas Pharmacist Association (KPHA). Chalen had such a big heart for helping people.  She loved shopping and loved to give.  Many of her purchases included food items for the local Horton food pantry. 

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the South Brown County Ministerial Association SBCMA Food Pantry. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Horton Christian Church where the family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
