Doris Simpson, 86, of Falls City, NE, passed away January 13, 2020. She was born on September 4, 1933 to Albert and Emma Suedmeier on her grandmother’s farm. Doris was baptized at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church. She accepted Christ into her heart at 6 years of age. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Falls City.

When starting school, she attended district 24 where she walked 1¾ miles to school for 3 years. After that the family moved several times and she moved with them into Falls City when she was in the 5th grade. She graduated from Falls City High School in 1951.

Doris worked at the Stephenson Hotel while attending high school and for a year after graduating, before moving to Chicago to help care for an ailing Aunt. Upon returning, she moved to Omaha and attended college for 2 years and worked for Brandies as a buyer. She then moved to Beatrice NE and that is where she met her 1st husband. They married on May 23, 1958. He passed away on July 5, 1958. To this union they had one daughter Debra, who was born in April 1959. After the death of her 1st husband Doris returned to Falls City in 1959 to raise her daughter. Debra became ill with Leukemia and passed away in 1964.

Doris went back to work at the Stephenson Hotel in the Coffee Shop and managed Sportsman Bar.

Doris later married William Bryan and to this union two children were born, Rene’ and Terry. They were later divorced.

Doris married Arthur Simpson. In 1972 the family moved to Texas. While there Doris was active in the PTA, Campfire Girls and the Hospital Auxiliary. They returned to Falls City in 1982. Art passed away in 1983.

Doris also worked for JC Penny’s and Dillard’s as a buyer. Later she went on the road working for the House of Lloyd and Artes Paints. She retired from this in 1993. She came out of retirement and worked doing in home health and retired again in 2013 because of health issues.

Doris is survived by one brother, Harold Suedmeier, one son, one daughter, 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10:30 AM at First Christian Church with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.

Open visitation and viewing will begin on Wednesday afternoon at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers Doris requested that memorials be sent to St. Jude Hospital for Children in honor of Debra Hoggatt.
