 Joyce Dalene (Logsdon) Brown, 74, Valley Falls, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 14, 1945, at Holton, the daughter of Dale and Ruth (Sutton) Logsdon. She was a 1963 graduate of Valley Falls High School.
    Joyce went to work for the Department of the Army at Ft. Leavenworth right out of high school. She ended her federal government career after 42 years of service, retiring from the United States Postal Service in 2005. After retirement she worked part-time at the Valley Falls Vindicator and TJ Maxx in Topeka.
    She was a former member of American Postal Workers Union Local 270 in Topeka and a current member of the Jefferson County National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 2243. She co-founded the Valley Falls Food Pantry. She was a member of the Valley Falls Economic Development Committee and currently held a position on the Jefferson County Service Organization board. Joyce was involved in local politics and participated in many city council meetings over the years.
    Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jerry Logsdon, and her ex-husband, Frankie T. Brown, Sr.
    She is survived by her family who were the light of her life. They included her children, Frankie T. “Tom” Brown, Jr. and Jeff (Beth) Brown, all of Valley Falls, and Tracy (Terry Marcotte) Brown, Manhattan; a sister Dianne (Paul) Heinen, Valley Falls; nine grandchildren, Alan (Chelsey) Brown, Shelli (Chase) Lederer, Lauren and Lily Brown, Keith (Corey) Spaulding, Stephen Lane, Brenna Lane, Franki (Brock) Watson, Emily Lane; and four great-grandchildren, Elisabeth Brown, Lily and Luke Lane, and Lane Watson. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren in all of their school activities. She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching the KSU Wildcats, KC Chiefs, and the KC Royals.
    As per Joyce’s request, she will be cremated.  In Joyce’s honor, her family will hold a remembrance of her life for extended family and friends from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Kendall State Bank Community Hall, 408 Broadway, Valley Falls. Her family is requesting those attending to please wear sports affiliated shirts.
    The family would like to express their appreciation to Jefferson County Hospice for their special care of Joyce these past two weeks.
