Charles D. “Chuck” Miller

Charles D. “Chuck” Miller, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Midland Hospice House of Topeka.  “Chuck”  was born March 4, 1935 in rural Jefferson County, KS, the son of Roscoe William and Lydia “Alice” Brittain Miller.  He was a 1953 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a graduate of the “Hard Knocks Cowboy College”.  He served in the U.S. Army from December 1953 to November 1955 with an honorable discharge.  “Chuck” was a lifelong, self employed owner and operator of Miller Excavating Co,  and was a Dairyman, Rancher and Farmer all in the Oskaloosa area.  “Chuck” loved music  and was the Managing Partner of the “Honey Creek Band”, entertaining for dances and special occasions in Northeast Kansas for more than 25 years.  He was a member of Oskaloosa United Methodist Church,  American Legion Post #36, and Masonic Lodge #14, all of Oskaloosa and  Eagle’s Lodge Arie #309, Lawrence. He was a Charter Member of the Lucky Spur Saddle Club in Oskaloosa and the F.W. Huston Pharmacy Coffee Club.  

  He married Marilyn “Jo” Mathis on December 21, 1956 at St. Mary’s, KS, she preceded him in death on September 22, 2018.  He is lovingly survived by two sons, Steve (Debbie) Miller, Valley Falls, Mike (Wendi) Miller, Oskaloosa, three daughters,   Jodi (Tom) Ragan, Oskaloosa, Judy (Terry) Morrow, Topeka, Peggy (Todd) Hurd, Perry, one sister, Betty Jo Miller, Orlando, FL, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  
  Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, April 26, 2021 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the Funeral Home.  Burial  at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to F.W. Huston Medical Center or to Midland Hospice in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS,   66066.
