James Roland Montgomery, 60, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Valley Falls, KS, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born June 11, 1960 in Topeka, KS, the son of Charles Eugene Montgomery, Sr. and Barbara A. (Godfrey) Montgomery.

James attended Valley Falls High School. He worked at the State of Kansas for the Department of Revenue in his early years. He later worked in maintenance for apartment complexes, including Fontainebleau Apartments.

 James married Teresa Lynn Church on July 6, 1985 in Valley Falls, KS; they celebrated over 35 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa of the home; 3 daughters, Brenda Montgomery, Haley Brewer (Bradley) and Alyssa Montgomery all of Topeka, KS; sister, Deanna L. Bernauer (Charles) of Topeka, KS; brother, Bobby Montgomery (Winona) of Valley Falls, KS; sister-in-law, Pam Montgomery of Hoyt, KS; brother-in-law, Mark Platt of Valley Falls, KS; grandson, Maverick and “one on the way”.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Eugene Montgomery in 2012; his father, Charles E. Montgomery, Sr in 2006; his mother, Barbara A. Montgomery in 2014; sister, Patricia L. Platt and 2 brothers, Charles E. Montgomery, Jr. and Jeffrey R. Montgomery.

Family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
