Gerald Edwin “Jerry” Taliaferro, 80, of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born March 26, 1941 in Horton, KS, the son of Jack and Theresa (Meador) Taliaferro. 

Jerry graduated from ACCHS High School in 1959. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 – 1967; he was stationed in Korea in charge of transporting ammunition for Military Tanks. 

 Jerry and his wife owned and operated Holton Livestock Express in Holton from 1976 -2013. He also owned and operated Taliaferro Farms with his brother Rick. 

 He attended Evangel United Methodist Church, Atchison American Legion Post 1617 and NRA.

 Jerry married Erma “Gail” Mick on May 29, 1968 in Oklahoma. They celebrated over 52 years of marriage. 

Survivors include his wife, Gail of the home; daughter, Barbara Sides (Troy) of Holton, KS; son, Gerald “Jerry” Taliaferro, Jr. (Dana) of Topeka, KS; 3 sisters, Mary Ann Bergmann (Mark) of Clive, IA, Eileen Buttron of Lancaster, KS and Marsha Collins (Don) of Valley Center, KS; brother, Rick Taliaferro (Gerri) of Effingham, KS and 3 grandsons, Rusty Taliaferro and Preston and Parker Sides. 

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Jerry will lie in state beginning Monday afternoon, May 3, 2021 and family will greet friends Tuesday one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gerald Taliaferro Memorial Fund (to be designated towards a youth scholarship for diesel mechanic or semi-truck driving) c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
