Rosella " Betty" Bien

Rosella “Betty” Elizabeth (Banks) Bien, 87, passed away on May 11, 2021 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas. Betty was born on April 29, 1934 in Fairview, Kansas to J. Harold Banks and Bridget (Farrell) Banks. She was a graduate of Fairview High School.  Betty married the love of her life, George Bien, on April 20, 1954 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fidelity, Kansas. Betty and George enjoyed the rest of their lives in Sabetha, Kansas.

Betty was employed at the Fountain Villa Nursing Home, Radio Shack, and worked as a dispatcher for the city of Sabetha for many years. Betty and George also owned and operated Sabetha Lanes for many years.

Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with the happenings in Sabetha via her police scanner.  She took pleasure in programming her home computers. In those early computer days, there were long pages of symbols and letters to program into the computer with the result being games for kids and adults to enjoy. Betty’s greatest joy was her family, evidenced by her many photo albums full of family pictures. Betty also enjoyed tracing the Banks and Bien family genealogies. Betty was known for her beautiful smile, her deep faith, and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her brothers, Gene, Paul, and Michael Banks; her sister, Mary Catherine (Banks) Strathman; her niece, Cathy (Strathman) Ward; her great nephew, Sean Paul Banks; and her great niece, Cierra Koletsis-Banks.

 Betty is survived by her son, Lawrence, and his wife, Sandra, of Belmont, California; her three grandchildren, Shalimar Feliciano and her husband, John, of Tampa, Florida, Ty Bien and his wife, Cashondra, of Willow Springs, Missouri, and Lauryn Bruton Barbosa Findley of Belmont, California; her five great-grandchildren, Ziva and Yesell Feliciano, and Joey, Andrew, and Monk Bien; her sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Bien) Banks of Russell, Kansas; her cousins; and her many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, Kansas. A rosary will be recited Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a visitation at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, Kansas. Inurnment will be made at the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Fidelity, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas.
