Kenneth Dale Thornton, 94, of Whiting, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at the Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born April 10, 1927 in Horton, Kansas.  He was only child of Vern and Mary (Anderson) Thornton.  Kenneth “Kenny” grew up just north of Whiting, Kansas on the family farm.   On April 24, 1948, he married Hilda Freda Schumaker in Hiawatha, Kansas. He was a member of the Whiting United Methodist Church.  Kenny enjoyed farming and his tractors.  He enjoyed attending local tractor pulls and visiting with neighbors. 

Survivors include his son, Larry Thornton of Whiting, four grandchildren, Rebekah Thornton-Savage of Manhattan, Kansas, Brett & wife Brooke Oxandale of Topeka, Kansas, Adam & wife Erin Thornton of Wamego, Kansas, and Brent & wife Stephanie Oxandale of Basehor, Kansas; and nine great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hilda F. Thornton, daughter, Cindy Kay Oxandale and daughter-in-law Cynthia Ann Thornton. 

Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Springhill Cemetery, Whiting, Kansas. Friends may call on Thursday at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary.
