Mary Ann McBratney, 87, of Atchison, KS passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, unexpectedly at Amberwell Atchison.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 26th, 2021, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Craig Lantz officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison KS. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am on Monday until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Mary Ann was born on Oct. 1, 1933, in Atchison Kansas the daughter of Ray and Estaline (Allen) Thompson. She was a graduate of Atchison High School in 1951. Through the years she worked for some of Atchison’s businesses, most recently at Litwin’s Department Store, but her life was devoted to her family, friends and church. Mary Ann loved to socialize, and she made friends everywhere she went. She had a wonderful laugh and a great sense of humor. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the church family, and her Bible Study classes. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 1175 Auxiliary, Atchison and the WELC (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church). She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and University of Kansas Basketball and Kansas City Chiefs Football. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved spending as much time with them as possible.

She was married to Edwin Arthur McBratney on Oct. 27, 1951, in Bentonville, AR. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996. Survivors include her children Rae Ann (Dave) Lackey, Cathy (Mike) Crockett, Edwin McBratney, Jr; grandchildren Amy Coles, Sarah (Brian) Mosiman, Eric (Emily) Lackey, Tony (Lilli) Lackey, Christopher (Tricia) Ricklefs, Ashley McBratney, Stephanie McBratney, Tricia Clark and 15 great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, brother Gary Thompson, and daughter Patty Stephenson, preceded her in death.
