Hubert Suther

Hubert Clem Suther, 94, of Wetmore, KS passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Sabetha Community Hospital. He was born November 29, 1926 in Seneca, KS, the son of Henry John and Marie Berding Suther.

Hubert graduated from Wetmore High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore where he served on the St. James Council Board and for many years as Lector. He was a founding member of the Wetmore Lions Club. Hubert was also a member of the Wetmore American Legion Levick Barrett Post #282 and served on the Honor Guard for them for many years. He served on the Wetmore Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors.

Hubert was married to Evelyn Marie Jurgensmeier April 18, 1951 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity, KS. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, Harlan E. Suther (Janet) of Wetmore, KS; his daughter, Yvonne M. Speck (Fred) of Guymon, OK; his sisters, Mary McDaniel (Harold) of Plano, TX, Marilyn Herr (Bob) of Kimberling City, MO and Linda Bloom (Ron) of Goff, KS; his brothers, Norbert Suther (Shirley) of Augusta, KS and Wilfred Suther (Rose) of Rockwall, TX; his grandchildren, Cameron Speck (Alicia), Lance Speck and Mitchell Suther (Maggie) and his great-grandchildren, Mazi, Jersey, Charlie, Liam, Charlotte and Luella. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Marcus Suther; daughter-in-law, Vickie Suther; his sisters, Lucinia Tolliver and Delores Schumaker and his brothers, Leonard and Bernard Suther.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial with military honors will follow at Wetmore Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will greet friends until 7:00 p.m. following the Rosary at the funeral home.
