Roland Emory Dial, 86, of Topeka, KS, received his wings on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born August 12, 1935 in Topeka, KS, the son of Leslie and Wilma (Scheiber) Dial.

Roland graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1953. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 – 1960 as a Supply Tech; earning Sharp Shooter, Marksman and Good Conduct Medals. Roland lived for many years in Valley Falls and also Topeka and Blue Rapids.

He was a member of the Topeka Masonic lodge for over 50 years and the Blue Rapids Lions Club.

He was a Mail Room Supervisor for the State of Kansas; retiring after 44 years. Roland enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garden, walking his dog and spending time with family. Roland was also a diehard Royals and Chiefs fan. He especially enjoyed watching games on Sundays with his sister, Kay.

Roland married Frankie Hulsopple; she preceded him in death in 2019. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Shawn Lay; a nephew, Bryan Rigdon; brother, Donald “Donnie” Dial and brother-in-law, Jack Rigdon.

Survivors include his daughter, Denea Lay of Topeka, KS; sister, Kay Rigdon of Topeka, KS; 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Blake), Kaela (Brice), Austin (Alyssa) and Kamren (Lexi); 5 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Logan, Braxton, Aylah, Kayden and AJ is on the way; 2 nephews, Chris Rigdon (Mary) and children, Maddy, Jack and Meghan and Scott Dial (Janet) and his children, Alexis, Taryn, Manning and Easton and his dog, Lily.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial with Military Honors conducted by Valley Falls V.F.W. Grahem - Herbers Post 3084 will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
