Dolores Brucken

formerly of Soldier, KS

Dolores M. Brucken, 90, formerly of Soldier, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

She was born January 24, 1931 at St. Benedict, the daughter of Henry and Frances Holthaus Osterhaus.

Before her marriage, Dolores had worked as a nurse’s aide in Seneca. After raising her children, she cooked for the Emmett Sale Barn, and later for Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga for more than twenty years.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, and the Altar Society and Mary Ann Circle at the church. She also taught CCD and had been the Religious Education Coordinator at one time.

She married Lawrence “Hap” Brucken on April 29, 1950 in St. Mary Catholic Church at St. Benedict. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2012.

Dolores was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, John Brucken and Pat Brucken, two brothers, Eddie Osterhaus, who died in childhood, and Marvin Osterhaus, and a sister, JoAnn Sandmann.

Survivors include three sons, Garry Brucken (Linda), Circleville, Allen Brucken (Dorinda), Alma and Galen Brucken (Tena), Soldier; two daughters, JoAnn Trinder (John), Kansas City, MO and Joleen Tannahill (Jack), Soldier; five brothers, Robert Osterhaus (Zita), Summerfield, Dick Osterhaus (Kay), Beatrice, NE, Jerry Osterhaus (Judy) Seneca, Dennis Osterhaus (Kathy), Sabetha and Hank Osterhaus, Salem, NE; four sisters, Mildred Eisenbarth, Hoyt, Sr. Mary Immaculata, Milwaukee, WI, Sharon Broxterman (Richard), Sabetha and Jeanette Koch (Elmer), Kansas City, MO, twenty-two grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15th at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, west of Holton. Dolores will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00.
