Emily Jane Stoll, 95, of Holton, KS, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at Medicalodge Jackson County. She was born January 24, 1926 in Banner Township (Holton), KS, the daughter of Frank L. and Josephine M. (McColgin) Davis.

Emily graduated from Holton High School in 1944 and earned her Teaching Certificate from Emporia State Teacher’s College. Emily began teaching in one-room schools in Jackson County and Highland Park Elementary. Emily stayed home with her children, working at Coach House Café at night. Emily worked as Librarian at Royal Valley Grade School for a couple of years and for Jackson Heights Grade School for over 14 years; retiring in 1995.

She was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Kansas State Historical Society; volunteering to transcribe many historical documents, including Carrie Nation’s and Samuel Reader’s diaries. Emily was Charter Member of Jackson County Historical Society, member of Samuel Linscott Chapter DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma and Banner Grange.

Emily married Wilbur Schirmer Stoll on December 26, 1959 in Holton. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine Davis; her first husband, Otis Meyer; sister, Marianne E. McClintock; brother, James Davis and nephew, Harry Patton.

Survivors include her son, William Stoll of Holton, KS; 3 daughters, Mary Beth Stoll of Holton, KS, Melissa Clark (Mike) of Silver Lake, KS and Ann Foster (Alan) of Rossville, KS; sister, Harriet Patton of Nathrop, CO; brother, John E. Davis of Holton, KS; 3 grandchildren, Perry, Ethan and Amelia and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
