Benedict " Ben" Heideman

Benedict “Ben” Heideman, 82, of Corning, Kansas died on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Country Place Living in Seneca, due to complications of Covid-19.

Ben was born on March 8, 1939 to Henry F. and Catherine C. Heideman in Baileyville, Kansas. Ben attended Sacred Heart Grade School until the family moved to the Corning community; when he attended St Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from the 8th grade, and in 1957 he graduated from Corning High School.

Ben served in the Kansas National Guard from May 1, 1960 until he was discharged in March 29, 1966; he served six months of active duty. Ben and his brother, Ray, were farming partners on the family farm; and on weekends he was helped by his brother, Charlie on the family farm. Ben was a farmer and a stockman; he also had a dairy operation, he simply loved the farm life. Ben enjoyed bowling, playing cards, visiting with family and watching local youth athletics, KSU, the Royals and the Chiefs.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning, the St. Patrick’s Cemetery Committee and St. Patrick’s Church Council (serving as a past president). He was a life time member of the Seneca Knights of Columbus Council 1769, where he was active in many aspects to the organization, he called Bingo and served on the building committee for the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Sr. Karen Heideman O.S.B and Virginia Runnebaum; brothers, Charlie, Tony, Jerry and Ray; and brothers-in-law, Vern Runnebaum, Buck Reed and Charles Gress.

He is survived by his brothers, Bob (Eleanor) Heideman of Seneca and Gene (Marilyn) Heideman of Topeka; his sisters, Ann Gress of Seneca, Carolyn (Jerry) Osterhaus of Seneca and Rita Reed of Topeka;  sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Heideman of Corning and Alice Heideman of Seneca; nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 P.M. on Wednesday, November 10th at the Lauer

Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials are for St. Patrick’s Church and/or NCTC in Seneca, sent in care of the family.
