Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Everest, KS

Daniel Schmidt, 72, of Everest, Kansas entered into eternal rest on December 11, 2021.

Dan is survived by his wife, Anna and son David of the home.  Additional survivors include brothers Dennis Schmidt (Gail) of Peculiar, Missouri, Charles Schmidt (Lisa) of Easton, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

Dan Schmidt and Anna Williams were married on December 28, 1982 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas with Father Thomas Clune officiating. They would have soon celebrated 39 years together. Dan was born June 17, 1949 at Axtell, Kansas to Benedict W. and Katherine Loob Schmidt.  He attended schools in Axtell and Horton, graduating from Horton High School in1967.

For many years, Dan owned and operated Schmidt Construction doing home remodeling and new construction in the Brown and Atchison County areas. Following that Dan worked for Highland Community College as a maintenance electrician.  He retired from HCC in 2014 after 23 years there.

An avid bowler, Dan participated with David on bowling teams in Atchison and Leavenworth.  He was also an enthusiastic participant with Anna and David in the Breakout Kids Club, a part of the ministries for young people at First Baptist Church, Hiawatha, Kansas.  Dan served as the van driver.

Dan will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.  Our hearts are broken by the loss of our loved one, but we are thankful for the joy he brought and the many memories we will share  of him until we see him again. Dan was cremated.

A Celebration of Life service is planned at First Baptist Church of Hiawatha, Kansas on December 22, 2021 beginning at 1pm with opening remarks by Daniel Burns. The family will then receive visitors following the service until 3:00 PM. A private family inurnment is to be held at a later date at the All Saints Cemetery northeast of Everest, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the youth programs at FBC Hiawatha by simply making checks payable to FBC Hiawatha and designating either Youth Ministries or Breakout on the memo line and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
