Alice Mae Uber

Alice Mae Uber, 82, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Amberwell Hospital in Hiawatha, Kansas. 

She was born on September 22, 1939 in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey and Roberta Behrnes.  Alice graduated from Whiting High School.  She was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church and thought the world of her church family.  She was a homemaker and worked at the Tri-County Manor for 25 years in the kitchen and laundry areas, she ran a daycare out of her home for years prior to working outside of the home. 

Prior to starting her family she worked at the Askren’s Grocery Store in Horton, Kansas.  Alice loved to crochet and quilt, as she made many blankets for all the grandchildren.  She was known for taking pictures and collecting photos.  You did not attend a family event without Alice taking pictures.  She volunteered at the thrift shop for many years. 

On October 6, 1957 she married Barney Chase Uber at the Whiting United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on October 30, 2013. 

Survivors include four daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Rundus of Basehor, Kansas, Judy (David) Dickman of Hiawatha, Kansas, Nancy (Warren) Rutland of Willis, Kansas, Bonnie (Mike) Long of Horton, Kansas; a son, Donnie (Nada) Uber of Peculiar, Missouri, seventeen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren; two sisters, Karen (Vincent) Vanderweide of Atchison, Kansas and Connie (Ron) Kautz of Holton, Kansas: three brothers, Gary (Jean) Behrnes of Horton, Kansas, Steve (Kristine) Spence of Horton, Kansas, and Jimmie (Cricket) Spence of Richlands, North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews only with special friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Eudene Behrnes and Roberta and Charles Spence, Brothers, Alvin Behrnes and Bob Spence, Sister, Vonda Sue Spence, Son in-law, Steve Wilson, and a granddaughter, Ashley Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Horton Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
