David Wayne Kooser, 68, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021, at his home in Horton, Kansas.

He was born on May 18, 1953 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Otis and Evelyn Loper Kooser. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and retired after serving his country for 20 years. He attended the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas.

On August 9, 1992 he married Melanie Tomalynn Powell in Austin, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Melanie Kooser of the home, Horton, Kansas; two sons, Rob (Alana) Kooser of Derby, Kansas and Ken (Shonda) Kooser of Derby, Kansas; three sisters, Sandra Hewitt of Circleville, Kansas, Jane (Harry) DeForest of Gardner, Kansas and Betty Letterman of Horton, Kansas; a brother, Herb (Sandy) Kooser of Hiawatha, Kansas; step sister-in-law, Vicki Kooser of Conroe, Texas and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-brother, Otis Ken Kooser Jr. and a grandson, Braxton Kooser.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas, with Military Graveside Rites and burial to follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. The family will greet friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
