Betty Lou Hower, 80, of Whiting, KS, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born October 12, 1941 in Fresno, CA, the daughter of Jack Curtis and Elsie Faye (Huffman) Higgins.

          Betty had lived in the Whiting Community since 1985 and previously in California. She was a cosmetologist and owned and operated beauty salons in Campbell, CA and Whiting, KS. She also worked for Jackson County Training Center in Holton, C & D Mart in Whiting, Union State Bank in Horton, Golden Eagle Casino and Sac and Fox Casino. While living in California, Betty enjoyed her Bunko groups.

          She married Lawrence E. Kaler; the divorced.

          She married Eldon Dale Hower on March 19, 1978 in Santa Cruz, CA; they celebrated over 43 years of marriage.

          Survivors include her husband, Eldon D. Hower of the home; 2 daughters, Brenda D. Kaler of Whiting, KS and Tanna Trimell of St. George, UT; step-daughter, Kelly M. Ward (Dan) of Sonora, CA; sister, Thelma Bolin of California; brother, Jack Higgins of Florida; daughter-in-law, Christina Kaler of Holton, KS; 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Elsie Higgins; son, Curtis D. Kaler; infant daughter, Donna Sue Kaler; sister Vivian Higgins; brother, Alan W. Higgins and 2 great-grandsons, Bentley and Abel Rupnicki.
