Billie " Bill" Amer

 Billie Dean “Bill” Amer of Topeka, KS, formerly of Holton, KS, left the building on January 5, 2022 at the awesome age of 87!

The following folks welcomed Bill into Heaven: his parents, Hubert and Mildred Amer; his sister, Ramona Amer McVey; his brother, Tom Amer along with many more family and friends.

Bill graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1952 and received his Associates Degree from Johnson County Community College. He attended and graduated from multiple Police Academies. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from June 2, 1952 – June 1, 1955, during the Korean Conflict. He earned the rank of Sergeant and served in an Artillery Support Battery and manned a 105mm M101A1 Howitzer.  

He worked in Law Enforcement for over 33 years. Bill was a police officer for Mission Township (now Overland Park) for 7 years and City of Shawnee for 26 years; retiring as Captain on January 26, 1990. Bill and his wife, Marjorie, were proud to raise cattle from 1985 – 2010 in the Holton area ~ He always told Marge “You and Me that’s what it’s all about”.

Bill was a longtime member of the Denison Bible Church and Shawnee, KS American Legion Post 327.

He married Marjorie Jean Denny on November 18, 1956 in Overland Park; they celebrated over 65 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Marge of the home; four children, Terry Catron (Christie) of Texas, Linda Tornetta (Donnie) of Orange, CA, Dianne Amer of Kansas and Bill Amer (Mary Clare) of Kansas; 9 grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Caris, Angie, Alycia, Troy, John, Meghan and David; and 10 great grandchildren, Indy, Tilly, Posey, Grant, Laurel, Tia, Daryan, Alexis, Eli, and Otto.

  If you didn’t beat Dad to Heaven, please join us Monday, January 10, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, KS to say a fond farewell to a wonderful man.
