Dorothy Marie Bausch, 98, a long-time resident of Hoyt, KS, said good-bye to her earthly family and friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022 as the entered the gates of Heaven into the arms of Jesus and her beloved Edward.

Dorothy was born November 30, 1923 in Birmingham, KS, the daughter of Albert and Esther (Partridge) Hug.

Dorothy was born near Birmingham, KS and attended elementary school at Denison Grade School. Dorothy graduated from Mayetta High School in 1941. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Edward Marvin Bausch on September 27, 1942. They lived near Mayetta and then later moved to their farm west of Hoyt in 1947.

There was no greater joy for Dorothy than being a farmwife with her family. Dorothy worked side by side with Ed in raising their 3 boys, crop farming and their cattle operation. They attended the Assumption Parish in Topeka, KS. Dorothy had her chickens in early years and delivered eggs in Topeka on her egg route for grocery money. Dorothy and Ed belonged to the Hoyt Horse Square Dancing Club for many years. Dorothy was a founding and lifetime member of the Hoyt Extension Club; which later became known as The Hoyt Town & Country EHU until it ended after 60 years. Dorothy was also involved in the Lincoln Social Club and the Kansas Farmwives; along with belonging to the National Farmers Organization (NFO). Her pride and joy were her involvement with her sons for 40 plus years in the Hoyt Livewires 4-H Club.

Dorothy loved gardening and preserving the produce for the winter months. She ran for parts on a moments notice; helped move equipment; helped with cattle work days; and hauled grain to town after putting on a full-course meal including fresh hot pie just coming out of the oven. She loved mowing their yard on her Farmall A and continued mowing until she was over 90 years of age. One of Dorothy’s greatest loves was her embroidery work (her first project at the age of 7) which included making tea towels, baby bibs, quilt blocks for numerous quilts that she created over the years. Dorothy could still be seen embroidering quilt blocks or tea towels until she was 96!

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Edward M. Bausch; her parents, Albert and Esther Hug; her brother and his wife, Truman and Helen Hug and brother-in-law, Ivan “Bob” Bausch.
