Guy Tilton
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
formerly of Effingham area, KS

Guy Alan Tilton, 56 of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

He was born in Emporia, KS on April 15, 1965 to Larry R. and Dhea Margo (Smith) Tilton.  He grew up in the Effingham, KS area and attended Atchison County Community Schools.  He graduated with the Class of ’83 as salutatorian and as a Kansas State Scholar, then went on to Highland Community College and Emporia State University where he pursued a marketing degree. 

After college he worked as a plant operator for MGP in Atchison before utilizing his marketing degree as a sales rep for Sysco Food Products in the northeast Kansas and Kansas City area.  While with Sysco he earned multiple Torchbearer awards. He moved to the Kansas City area in 2000.   In 2006 he moved to Las Vegas and worked for Sysco in corporate development, as lead trainer and as a district manager.  In 2016 he joined Sundell & Associates, eventually becoming Vice-President of Supply Chain Management.  He enjoyed the challenges of his career and put in long hours accomplishing goals.  In spite of illness he still worked from home or the hospital until shortly before his death.

   With his father as his coach and mentor, Guy started competing with the Effingham Kids Wrestling team in kindergarten, then competed in the Kids Federation Wrestling competitions until high school.  During high school he qualified for state competition each year.  He was a proud member of the 1982 and 1983 4A State Championship wrestling teams.  Guy had a competitive nature and liked to win.  This carried over into his adult life.  He fought colon cancer with the same tenacity.  In spite of outstanding medical care, he died at KU Medical Center early on Feb. 3, 2022. He had moved to Lenexa in October to be nearer family.

 Guy enjoyed cooking, golfing and socializing with friends and family.  He and a group of friends went to Chicago annually to enjoy the air show and ballgames.  He enjoyed life.

Guy is survived by a daughter, Devyn Comens of San Antonio, TX, his mother, Margo Tilton-Looper of Mission, KS, his sister, Carissa Tilton, Kansas City, his brother, Dustin (Trudy) Tilton, De Soto and nephew Treverton Tilton.  He is also survived by step-sister Angela Jackson and family of Horace, ND, James Looper of Osage, MN, and Joseph Looper and family of Wells, ME.  Also surviving is a huge family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Larry R. Tilton, his step-father Fred W. Looper, step-brothers Bob and Rick Looper, and grandparents Max and Hazel Tilton and Jay and Jetta Smith.

 Funeral services are planned for 10:30, Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton., Kansas. Pastor Ryan Van Peursem will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Miller Cemetery.  Due to Covid concerns a visitation will not be held, but an outdoor Celebration of Life is being planned near Everest on April 16.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in his name to the Atchison County Community Schools Education Foundation (ACCSEF) to benefit the wrestling program, or the American Cancer Society  and may be sent in care of the mortuary, 909 Central Ave., Horton, KS 66439.   His family respectfully urges everyone to have a colonoscopy periodically.   Online condolences may be made to www.dishon-maple-chaney.com.
