Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa
McLouth, KS

Leota Mae Daniels, 89, of McLouth, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the Rest Well Home Plus Care Facility in Oskaloosa.  Leota was a lavender flower among us. She represented purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace and calmness and she will be sorely missed by many.

Leota was born December 23, 1932 in rural Leavenworth County, the daughter of Leo and Frances Mae Turpin Casteel. Her father, Leo Casteel died on September 23, 1932 as a result of a construction accident at the Hubbell Hill construction site near Tonganoxie. Leota’s family was made whole again, when her mother, “Mae” married John Grover Winfrey of McLouth on October 14, 1933. John adopted Leota as the moon and stars of his life in October of 1933.

Leota was united in marriage to Roscoe Warren Daniels on December 26, 1949 at the Stanwood Friends Church of rural Tonganoxie. They settled in McLouth and shared 70 years of marriage before his passing on April 26, 2020.  As an only child, Leota was determined to fill her home with love and the pitter patter of little feet.

Leota was a member of the McLouth First Baptist Church and a former member and pianist of Stanwood Friends Church.  She was a homemaker and served as a bus driver for McLouth School district #342 for many years.

Leota is survived by two sons, Jim Daniels, Sunrise Beach, MO, John (Charlotte) Daniels, McLouth, two daughters, Delpha (Ron) Forshee, McLouth, Delia (John) Heston, Oskaloosa, 10 grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Donna Sue Haling.

Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at McLouth First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the Service at the Church. Burial (weather permitting) will follow at McLouth Cemetery. Memorials suggested to McLouth First Baptist Church or to XXXXXXX in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, KS    66066.
