Maxine Havlicek

Formerly of DuBois, NE

Maxine Helen Havlicek, 99, formerly of DuBois, Nebraska was born July 19, 1922, on a ranch in Orissa, Wyoming to William and Rose (Rousek) Jacoby.    She spent her early childhood in Wyoming, then at age seven the family moved to Millville, New Jersey.  Maxine attended local schools and graduated with the Millville High School class of 1940.  She worked at several businesses in Vineland, New Jersey and in 1947 moved to DuBois, Nebraska.  On June 9, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage to Charles Havlicek of DuBois, Nebraska.  To this union three sons, Charles, Andy and Jon were born.  

Maxine was active in local community activities.   She was a 4-H leader, served on the local Fair Board, the Community Action Council, and served on the local 4-H council.  She was an avid fossil collector.   Maxine spent many afternoons scouring the Kinters Ford area for fossils and gemstones while Charles and the children fished.    She received recognition from the University of Nebraska Museum of Natural History for her discoveries.  Maxine was also an active learner.  She loved learning and encouraging her children to keep looking… keep searching for new knowledge.   She also loved history and was active in the Pawnee County Historical Society. 

Maxine passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022, at the Premiere Estates Care Center in North Platte, Nebraska having reached the earthy age of ninety-nine years, eight months and twenty-three days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and three siblings Acelia, Eugene and Ervin Jacoby. 

Maxine was survived by her sons: Chuck Havlicek and wife Barbara of Manhattan, KS; Andy Havlicek and wife Susan of McCook, NE; Jon Havlicek and wife Donna of Mertztown, PA; grandchildren: Rebecca (Seth) Woods of Apex, NC; Christina (Greg) Denton of Belaire, TX; Stacey (Tim) White of Hershey, NE; Andrea Strauch of Lincoln, NE; Shawn (Janie) Havlicek of McCook, NE; Brandi Emmons of Kearney, NE; Tarra (Michael) Bendorf of Washington, NJ; Michael Havlicek of McCook, NE; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 “G” Street in Pawnee City, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.  A live-stream broadcast of Maxine’s services will be available on our Wherry Mortuary/Monument Facebook page.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Wherry Mortuary in Pawnee City.

Interment will immediately follow services at The Bohemian National Cemetery south of Humboldt, Nebraska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions are suggested to the Pawnee County 4-H Program or Pawnee County Historical Society.
