Hazel Kennedy

formerly of Soldier, KS

Hazel K. Kennedy, 99, formerly of Soldier, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at her home in Topeka.

She was born April 8, 1923 at Soldier, the daughter of Adolph and Minnie DeLap Bock. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1941.

Hazel was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, East Grant Unit, and had been a 4-H Leader.

She married Robert V. Kennedy on June 20, 1942 in San Diego. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2009.

Hazel was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Mike Kennedy, a son-in-law, Denzel Long and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Kennedy.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Kennedy (Bev), Silver Lake and Pat Kennedy, Circleville; three daughters, Sue Kennedy, Topeka, Jeanne Long, Plano, TX and Karen Othmer (Treve), Topeka; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kennedy, Holton; thirteen grandchildren, Kevin Long, Jeff Long, Tiffany Vazquez, Dustin Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, Jeremy Kennedy, Eric Blackwood, Brock Blackwood, Jared Blackwood, Chris Kennedy, Michelle Dallas, Katlin Othmer and Carly Othmer, twenty-three great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7th the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Cemetery near Soldier. Hazel will lie in state at the funeral home from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Down’s Syndrome Innovations, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS 66436.
