Robert " Bob" Heideman

Robert (Bob) Heideman 95, of Seneca Kansas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital May 21, 2022.

Bob was born at Baileyville, Kansas, the son of Henry and Catherine Henry Heideman on Jan. 24, 1927. He attended Sacred Heart School at Baileyville until 1941 when his parents moved to a farm west of Kelly. He then attended St. Bede’s School in Kelly.

He married Eleanor Gress on Oct. 25, 1952 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. They made their home at Sabetha until the spring of 1956 when they moved to a country home east of Seneca where they raised their seven children. In November 1983 they moved to Seneca where they had built a new home and still reside today. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in October 2002 and their 65th Wedding Anniversary in October 2017.

Bob worked for area farmers until he started work at the Nemaha Coop Creamery in Sabetha in Feb. 1951. He continued working there after it became known as Mid America Dairymen retiring in Dec. 1991, where he was supervisor of the dried milk department.

Bob was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and had served on the Parish Council. He was a rosary leader before the Saturday evening Mass. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1769, and a member of the St. Joseph Society.  He helped coach Little League baseball for several years. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, woodworking, traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching the Royals and K-State Wildcat games.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Eleanor, his three sons – Steve (Nancy), Ames, Iowa, Wayne (Shelly), Pleasant Plains, Illinois and Roger (Terri), Lincoln, Nebraska, his four daughters – Evelyn (Ardan) Rottinghaus, Seneca, Kansas, Joyce (Roger) Snowden, Omaha, Nebraska, Barbara (Larry) Huey, Topeka, Kansas and Jane Heideman, Overland Park, Kansas. He is also survived by his brother Gene Heideman of Topeka, his sisters Ann Gress and Carolyn Osterhaus of Seneca and Rita Reed of Topeka. He was a proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Virginia Runnebaum and Sr. Karen Heideman OSB and brothers Jerry, Ray, Charlie, Tony and Ben.

Rosaries will be prayed on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 2 & 7 PM at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24th at 10 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the, Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Benedictine Sisters Atchison, or Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
