David " Dave" Blazic, Sr.

David James “Dave” Blazic, Sr, 85, of rural Topeka, died Friday, June 24, 2022 at the University of Kansas St. Francis Campus.

Dave was born July 17, 1936 at Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Frank and Marie Hoard Blazic.  He lived in Kansas 65 years, moving from Sheboygan, WI.  He attended schools in Big Bend, OR. At  age 17, he enlisted in the U.S Air Force and served as Flight Mechanic 20 years, five months and five days from October 23, 1958 to April 1, 1974, he served in Thailand, Udorn, Viet Nam, Thule, and Greenland for 378 days before retiring from the Air Force. 

A mechanic all his life, after Air Force  retirement,  Dave worked for the State of Kansas, Kansas Neurological Institute, Jackson County and the City of Topeka before retiring in 1995. Dave is a member of the Meriden Community Church, American Legion Post #400, Topeka and served as a ReLiv Ambassador. Dave was a collector of old tractors and has 15 in his collection, the oldest is a 1932 model with a crank or fly wheel start.

 He married Betty Lou Lawrence Towne Humbert on August 31, 1991 in Topeka, She survives at the home. He is also survived by three sons, David J. Blazic, JR, Tenn, Michael (Cathy) Blazic, Hoyt, Daniel (Alayna) Blazic, Elkton, VA, a step-daughter, Sherry (Jim) Reser, Topeka, a step son, Rodney (Tracy) Humbert, Topeka, one brother, Thomas Blazic, Colorado Springs, CO,  14  grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Blazic and Joseph Blazic.
 

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Meriden Community Church, Meriden. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 29 at the Church. The casket will remain closed.  A Grave Side Service with American Legion Honors will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.  In lieu of flowers and cards, the family suggest to friends and family to share a memory of Dave Blazic or a gift to Meriden Community Church in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O.
