Katherine Anne (Steinauer) Wehrbein, 91 of Burchard, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Bryan Memorial Hospital west with her family by her side.  She was born on April 3, 1931 to Norbert A. and Mary Susan Hochreiter in Lincoln, Nebraska. 

Katherine was born during the depression and during that time the family moved frequently, her father was out of work so they lived with grandparents in Steinauer, Nebraska and Lincoln, Nebraska.

Katherine attended grade school in Tecumseh, Syracuse, St. Theresa’s Grade School in Lincoln, Saratoga grade school, St. Anthony’s Grade School, then attended St. Anthony’s High School and graduated in 1949.  She then attend UNL for her Bachelor and graduated in 1953. Katherine interned at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1954 and in 1981 graduated from University of Kansas with her Masters in 1981.

Katherine married Duane L. Wehrbein at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska on February 15, 1958. To this union two children were born, Jeffrey Duane and Beverly Kay. Duane passed away on March 19, 2016.

Katherine worked as a Registered Dietician at Lincoln General Hospital, Methodist Hospital in Omaha, County Health Department at Concordia, Kansas, Wyandotte City/County Health Department in Kansas.  She was a consultant in Nebraska for Pawnee County Hospital , Johnson County Hospital, Colonial Acres in Humboldt, Blue Springs in Kansas Nursing Home and Maple Grove Nursing Home.

Katherine was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burchard, Nebraska. She was president, secretary and treasure of the Altar Society for Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of Burchard  Legion Auxiliary and was the secretary. 

Katherine loved reading, sewing, knitting and being in the Extension Club, bowling, enjoyed dancing and enjoyed their annual trip to Las Vegas.   Enjoyed going for coffee and every Tuesday going to Jeannie’s Place for lunch. Enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren activities. 

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Norbert and Mary Steinauer, husband Duane, brother Nicky Steinauer.

Katherine is survived by her son Jeffrey Duane (Tracie) Wehrbein, daughter, Beverly Kay (Brad) Stake, grandsons, Brandon (Julie) Stake, Tyler (Kayliegh) Wehrbein, granddaughters, Samantha (Matt) Selig, Jessica (Jason) Drager , Amber (Jordan) Workman, Brooke Wehrbein, Megan Wehrbein, great grandchildren, Owen, Alivia, Laken, Braxten, Blaire, Candace, Hazel, Olive, Leo, Lucy, Nora, Jackson, Cooper, Harlow, Wrenley,  sisters, Sue Miles, Sally Steinauer, brothers, Bob (Barb) Steinauer, sisters-in-law, Sharon Lambert, Carol Wehrbein, brother-in-law, David Wehrbein, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska with Father Michael Christensen officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Wherry Mortuary in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Steinauer, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the family's choice.

Inurnment will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Steinauer, Nebraska, at a later date.
