Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Billings, 86, Valley Falls, KS died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at her home with her husband, Jim by her side. Dottie was born in Arrington, KS on August 27, 1935 to Francis Bernard and Lennie Beatrice Cummings. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1953 and from St. Francis Hospital Nursing School in 1956. On November 27, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart, James William “Jim” Billings.

She worked as a Registered Nurse for 50 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church & Altar Society. She enjoyed her local Bridge Club and volunteering with Jefferson County Friends of Hospice. After retirement, she and Jim enjoyed traveling and adventures by RV. Dottie was known for her smile, her kindness and the love & care she showed for her family & those she met along the way.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim and their five daughters: Brenda Billings, Valley Falls; Baretta Schmeissner (Chris), Valley Falls; Barb Murphree (David) Valley Falls; Jamie Billings, Topeka; Jeanie Frakes (Rick), Valley Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents & her sister, Rita Markley and her brother, Robert Alan Cummings.

She loved & enjoyed her 13 grandchildren: James Hicks (Jenny), Lisa Hicks, Leah Jimerson (Elijah), Andrea Vincent (Tim), Noah Schmeissner, Miles Murphree, Cole Murphree, Tyler Dismang, Tiffany Dismang, Jessie Frakes, Wilder Frakes, Rachel Frakes (Dalton), John Frakes and 3 great grandchildren: Kehlani, Judah & Everette.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls, KS. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery in Valley Falls, KS. There will be a Rosary recited at 10 a.m. with the visitation following up until the service time at 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
