Tracey “Tiny” Hasenkamp, 59, of Wetmore, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022; surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 10, 1963 in Axtell, Kansas to Leo Louis and Mary Ann Johnson Hasenkamp.  He grew up in the Wetmore community and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1981.  

Tracey was never afraid of hard work; and after high school took a job in a mill in South Dakota.  He loved his time there and even after returning home would often vacation in South Dakota. After returning to Kansas, he worked on a bridge crew for Welliever’s Construction later known as Midwest Construction, and eventually became foreman.  He also worked security for Remington’s, a country dance club in Topeka, where he became known as “Tiny.” When his mother’s health deteriorated and he became her primary care giver he became self-employed, starting Hasenkamp Residential Construction.  He was a devoted son and took great care of his mother until her death in 2011. Tracey’s strong work ethic was evident until the end; he enjoyed helping at Haverkamp Dairy until his health prohibited him from being able.  

Tracey loved to be outdoors!  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working the soil.  He found great pleasure and took pride in sharing his garden produce, the eggs from his chickens and the black walnuts and pecans he cracked with his family and friends.  Being a father figure to his only nephew, he enjoyed spending time with him, and introducing him to his beloved Black Hills in South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Joseph Hasenkamp and Leona Hasenkamp.

He is survived by his beloved dog, Jake; two sisters, Nellie Hasenkamp of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming and Rosemary Hanna of Fort Worth, Texas; three nieces, Kimberly Kolbek, Andi Schreiner, Mary Martin, and one nephew, Joseph Hanna, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.  He loved his cousin Ellie Haverkamp like a sister and her family became his extended family.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.  His funeral service will follow at 10:30AM that morning also at the Funeral Home.
