Sabetha , KS

Patricia “Pat” Anne Kirwan, 84, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away in her sleep on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the Apostolic Christian Assisted Living in Sabetha.

Pat was born in Sabetha, Kansas at her family home on November 17, 1936, to Earl “Nabb” A. Myers and Maxine Rachel (Helphingstine) Myers. Pat graduated from Sabetha High School in 1955. She married Jim Kirwan on June 24, 1955, in Sabetha, Kansas. They later divorced.

Pat was a homemaker for almost 30 years while raising her two children. Pat carefully guided her children through childhood and beyond. Rhonda and Randy stated, “Our mother was very devoted to her family. She was always there for us and supportive of our many life choices. Some of which went against social norms in a changing world in the 1970’s.” Pat believed in balance of life and supported her children’s many hobbies as well. Most importantly, Pat instilled in her children a good work ethic and core life values which they have passed on to Pat’s grandchildren.

After being out of school for many years and when she was in her forties, Pat returned to school at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa to pursue a nursing degree. Pat successfully obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing which was an amazing feat for her. Her area of specialty was oncology nursing, and she was proud of her nursing accomplishments.

In 1987, Pat moved to Florida where she resided for 34 years. She continued her nursing career and was instrumental in helping two hospitals, Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral, Florida and Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida, obtain their hospital accreditation certificate. More importantly, she loved being a nurse because she was able to care for, support, and help so many people. Pat also volunteered and worked as a preschool teacher for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, and she loved every moment that they spent with each other.

Pat enjoyed traveling to various places including Bermuda, France, Switzerland, Italy, and the Bahamas where she snorkeled with big fish called a barracuda.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two children, Dr. Rhonda Kirwan, DVM of Alva, Florida and Dr. Randy Kirwan, DDS of Sabetha, Kansas; her grandchildren, Amanda (Mathew) Westman of Fort Myers, Florida, Mateo (Amanda) Kirwan of Memphis, Tennessee, and Alec Kirwan of Sabetha, Kansas; her brother, Harrison Myers of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister, Linda (Phil) Wertenberger of Sabetha; and numerous nephews and cousins.

A graveside service and inurnment will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Brown County Humane Society in Hiawatha, Kansas and the Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice in Sabetha, Kansas.
