Helen Rose Ann (Smallfield) McDaniel, 84 of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, November 25, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. She was born April 20 1938 in Flandeau, S.D. the daughter of Otto William and Beatrice Lenora (Winklewitsch) Smallfield.

Helen graduated from Flandreau High School in 1956 in Flandreau, S.D. She graduated from cosmetology college in Sioux Falls, S.D. Helen was a homemaker and housewife.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, quilting club at the church, OES #320, V.F.W. Post 400 Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

Helen married James Dean “J.D.” McDaniel on November 25, 1961 in Enid, OK. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2006 after 44 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Beatrice Smallfield and a brother, John Smallfield.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Robert McDaniel (Nora) of Sioux Falls, SD and William McDaniel of Topeka, KS; 3 daughters, KS, Dawn Baldwin (Lonnie) of Topeka, KS, Sally Beckwith of Topeka, KS and Amie McDaniel of Haysville, KS; a brother, Delbert Smallfield (Florence) of Bloomington, MN; 5 sisters, Virgene Bullis of Knoxville, IA, Frances Smallfield of Palm Desert, CA, Karen Johnson (Raymond) of Hephzibah, GA, Beverly Jones of Lake Madison, SD and Dorothy Leraas of Brookins, SD; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery.
