Dorothy Maxine Slimmer, 96, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Holton, KS, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, KS. She was born July 18, 1926 north of Soldier, KS, the daughter of Earl William and Pearl (McDevitt) Watkins.

Dorothy graduated from Wetmore High School in 1945. She lived over 50 years in Holton and previously in Topeka and Council Grove. Dorothy worked for over 10 years at Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton, earning Supervisor and as a Sales Clerk for Knouft- Dime Store and Gambles Department Store. She especially enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church belonging to Ruth- Circle, United Methodist Women and Sunday School. She was also a member of the HDU Extension and Holton V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 1367. She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and a Brownie Scout Leader. Dorothy made most of Sylvia- clothing, all of her granddaughter- a quilt and crocheted Christmas Santa boots for friends and family for gifting homemade cookies.

Dorothy married Gordon Russell Slimmer on May 23, 1946 in Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1994; after 48 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harry Lomax and Phillip Watkins.

Survivors include 2 sons, Dennis R. Slimmer (Kathy) of Topeka, KS and Donald E. Slimmer (Cheryl) of Augusta, KS; daughter, Sylvia Slimmer Murphy ( Steve) of Alta Vista, KS; step-son, David Shrader (fiancé, Jeanie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 5 granddaughters, Barbara M. McClintock (Steven), Deborah L. Murphy Reynolds (Kevin), Kaycee S. Garza (Dan), Mindy L. Baca (Thomas) and Dallas M. Brown (Travis); 2 step-grandchildren, Heather Shrader and Mark Shrader; 4 great-grandchildren, Calvin Reynolds, David Garza, Alissa Garza and Eloise Brown and 1 step-great-grandson, Trey Shrader.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Dorothy will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
