Calvin Brenner

Calvin Warren Brenner, 97, of Topeka, KS passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Atria Hearthstone East in Topeka. He was born January 13, 1925 in Havensville, KS, the son of Percy William and Florence Eva (Bottom) Brenner.

He attended a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade and graduated from Soldier High School in 1943. After he graduated, he enlisted in the United States Navy on August 3, 1943, during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theatre a in the battle for the liberation of Guam and Philippines.

After WWII, he married Marilyn Helen DeBusk of Soldier, KS and they moved to Topeka. They had two children, Rodney and Cynthia. He worked for the John Morrell Company until the 1951 flood washed it out. He then worked for the Air Force Supply Depot as a supply inspector in Topeka until it closed. Then, in 1961, he worked for General Dynamics/Astronautics on the Atlas Missile Program as a fuel inspector. As the missile program phased out, he worked for the City of Topeka managing parking garages until his retirement in 1990.

He loved his family, holiday dinners, and birthday celebrations. He and Marilyn loved traveling in the United States and Canada, and traveling with his family members. Other things he enjoyed were gardening, sports, and meeting with his coffee group at McDonalds.

Calvin was preceeded in death by his parents; Percy and Florence Eva (Bottom) Brenner; his loving wife, Marilyn; a son, Rodney; a sister, Florence Scott; and a nephew Anthony Brenner.

Calvin is survived by his daughter, Cynthia and her husband, Steve Keeler of Tulsa, OK; a daughter-in-law, Gail Brenner of Soldier, Ks. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Nicki Curtis and her husband Brian of Holton, Brandi Fritz and her husband, Matt of Soldier, and Kyli Brenner of Soldier; great-grandchildren, Brock and Erin Curtis, Riley and Kolten Brenner, Tyler Kraushaar (Derek), and Xavier, Emirson, Brandin Fritz.

The family of Calvin would like to express a special Thank You to the Caregivers and Staff at Atria Hearthstone as well as his thoughtful neighbors.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Soldier Cemetery.
