Leona Siess

Leona Nordhus Siess, 93, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2023. She was born July 18, 1929, to Leo and Nora Haverkamp Nordhus in Seneca, Kansas.

Leona attended school in St. Benedict, Kansas and graduated from St. Benedict High School, then attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas and got a nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse in the Seneca area, then went to Topeka and worked at the V.A. Hospital, KNI and several nursing homes.

Leona was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and diamond dot art. Leona enjoyed spending time with the many friends from her neighborhood, her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leona married Conrad Siess, on November 18, 1955, in St. Mary Church, St. Benedict, Kansas. They lived on a farm in Seneca where they raised their six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad, son, John Siess, grandson, Jeremy Siess, siblings, Sister Trinitas Norita Nordhus, Albert Nordhus, Celine Chu, Larry Nordhus and brothers-in-law, Joe Chu and Robert Vondenkamp. Survivors are her children, Joyce Bergman (Mike), Mary Jo Haug (Duane), Richard Siess (Beth), Virgil Siess, Mark Siess (Joni); 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Nancy and Jackie Siess; siblings, Clarence Nordhus (Jane), Mary Beth Vondenkamp, Florian Nordhus (Carolyn), and David Nordhus (Donna); and sisters-in-law, Velma and Ellen Nordhus.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, with rosary being prayed at 3 p.m.

Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9208 Main Street, St. Benedict KS 66538, where Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery.
