Sandra “Sue” Kwan

Sandra “Sue” Kwan, was born in Missouri, March 31, 1940, one of eight children born to Dayton and Jennie Wilfong Lawson. She passed away at her Hiawatha home January 23, 2023, at the age of 82.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Friday, where the family will meet from 4:30 until 6:30 that evening. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Sue was married to Eldon Dale Mathew. To this union three children were born: Daniel, Dale, and Jennie. She was a stay at home Mom being dedicated to her family while the children were younger & in school. Mr. Mathew died October 25, 1984. Sue met and later married Yuek Tsang Kwan in October 1988. They owned and operated a restaurant in Paola, KS, prior to relocating to Hiawatha where they opened “China Food” restaurant for the past 20 years. Sue did whatever needed to be done: waitressing, helping in the kitchen, taking phone orders, cleaning, etc.

When not busy at the restaurant, she enjoyed shopping, going to the casino with Kwan, spending time with the kids and grandkids, and taking care of her plants.

Survivors include her husband Yuek, children: Daniel L. Mathew (Hope), Dale Mathew, and Jennie Mathew; grandchildren: Daniel A. Mathew (Mary), Darcy Seibert (Jon), Jake Jewell (Kelsey), Brandi Jewell, Lane Mayfield (Millie), Connor and Ethan Worthey; great-grandchildren include Drake, Scout, Jolie Mathew, Talon Knight, Nathaniel, Eli Seibert, Jarrett Mayfield and Jackson Jewell. A sister Jennie Stealman also survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Bill Lawson, Bobby Lawson, Don Lawson, Betty Wade, Kathy Record and Karen Shepard.
