Deanna Lynn Bernauer, 60, of Valley Falls, KS, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 at Osage Nursing Center. She was born March 26, 1962 in Winchester, KS, the daughter of Charles Eugene Montgomery, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Godfrey) Montgomery.

Deanna graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1980. She graduated Washburn Institute of Technology (WTI) earning her Associates Degree in Medical Billing and Coding. She lived most of her life in Valley Falls and previously in Topeka.

She worked over 30 years as a typist for the State of Kansas and later owned and operated her home daycare for 10 years both in Topeka.

Deanna was a member of Valley Falls United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge in Topeka. She enjoyed crocheting.

She married Charles Thomas Bernauer, II on September 13, 1980 in Valley Falls. They celebrated over 42 years of marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of the home; 2 daughters, Tonya Eastman (Chance) of Overbrook, KS and Tara Bernauer of Topeka, KS; brother, Bobby Montgomery (Winona) of Valley Falls, KS; 2 sisters-in-law, Pam Montgomery of Hoyt, KS and Teresa Montgomery of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, Tammy Wynkoop (Brad) of Valley Falls; brother-in-law, Mark Platt of Valley Falls, KS and 4 grandchildren, Gage, Taelynn, Jordan and Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Barbara Montgomery; sister, Patricia Platt and 3 brothers, Charles, James and Jeffrey Montgomery.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be given to Susan G.
