Vera “Jean” McConnell

Vera “Jean” McConnell, 97, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Valley Falls, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born April 28, 1925 in Pawnee, MO, the daughter of Clifford and Nettie Alcinda (Mallatt) Cisco.

Jean graduated from high school in Eagleville, MO in 1945. She worked for Quarter Master Depot in Kansas City, MO, she was a Dental Assistant for Dr. Tillery Family Dentistry, Finley Title in Oskaloosa and later a teller for Kendall State Bank both in Valley Falls. Jean also sold Home Interiors for many years.

She was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and PEO - Chapter DK in Valley Falls. In early years, she was a Boy Scout Leader and Campfire Girl Leader. She was a life-long quilter and seamstress, square dancer, swing dancer and many others.

Jean married Dean Eldon McConnell on December 22, 1945 in Sacramento, CA. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Nettie Cisco; son, Richard Dean McConnell; sister, Twyla Gunn and 2 brothers, Rex and Gerald Cisco.

Survivors include her son, Royce McConnell (Grace) of Irasburg, VT; 2 daughters, Alisa Grollmes (Larry) of Topeka, KS and Alcinda “Cindy” Daniels (Ed) of Lecompton, KS; 8 grandchildren, Richard Dean (Robin), Jesse (Aimee), Ross (Amy), Beau (Hailey), Tess (Shawn), Cheris (David), Joshua (Matt) and Allison and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the Valley Falls Cemetery.
