Wanda Jeanette (Hard) Moyer, 85, of Falls City was born on June 7, 1937, in St Helen-, Oregon to Robert Arthur and Grace Fern (Moe) Hard. She was the youngest and only girl welcomed home by big brothers Wayne (Carol) Hard, Warren “Bob” (Patty) Hard and Wade (Mary) Hard. In 1952, Wanda married Orville Hexum and in 1953, they welcomed their first daughter, Deborah Lynne. The couple welcomed their middle daughter, Christine Ann in 1954 and their youngest daughter in 1955. They named her Katherine Louise. Wanda and Orville divorced in 1958.

Several years later, while serving in the US Navy, her brother Bob introduced Wanda to his fellow shipmate Richard. Soon they were planning their move to California to start their journey as a family. With the girls in tow, they set out, stopping in Albuquerque, New Mexico to get married on February 8, 1963, officially becoming Mr. & Mrs. Moyer.

While living in California, Wanda continued her music career, writing and performing her own music. She performed with Little Jimmy Dickens, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and Buck Owens and partied with pre-Muppet Jim Henson. And there was the one time, Gene Simmons and the rest of Kiss showed up at their house for a random jam session. She opened her home to foster battered and abused children. Wanda and Richard met their son, Robert Dean, through foster care and later adopted him. Wanda made the decision to put her family ahead of her music career, but the music never left her. She just traded an audience of strangers for one that loved her. She sang for her family. She sang while she rocked her grandkids. She sang while she baked bread and cooked meals. She sang while she gardened and canned the fruits of her labor. She sang with a voice that would vibrate your soul and put goose bumps on your skin. Wanda was also a doll collector, toy surgeon, amateur botanist and seamstress. Her house resembled a small rain forest, much to the dismay of her husband. She could crochet and sew anything, with or without a pattern. She crocheted everything from afghans to nativity scenes complete with camels and a baby Jesus, and even made scarves and hats for those less fortunate and those “more elderly” than her. Wanda loved to sew. She would make all her daily-wear dresses and made all the costumes she wore when she performed. She even made the most beautiful wedding dress that 2 of her granddaughters were able to wear.

Wand passed away on March 25, 2023, at her home in Falls City, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-five years, nine months, and eighteen days. She is survived by her daughters: Deborah Hart, Katherine Russell and Wendi Padgett; son Robert Moyer, brother Wade Hard and wife Mary, “sister” Connie Torres, grandchildren: Jennifer Grantham, Dr. John (Carly) Russell, Misty (Johnny) Green, Corrin (Warren) Sudweeks, Amie Hart, Aric Russell, Jeremy (Katy) Friend, Kaelan Jones, Kirby Jones, Kamelia Jones and Hailey Moyer; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Inurnment Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Steele Cemetery in Falls City with Chaplain Jeff Pederson officiating.
